17 HR publications you should be reading

Even in a niche sector like HR, there are so many publications that provide the latest industry news, trends and insights.

Whilst there are similarities between some, others are more specialist - so if you’re looking for certain information and solid guidance (perhaps on tech, benefits, recruitment and so many other HR specialities) there are particular publications that you should keep an eye on.

To help, we’ve put together a list of 17 titles to read - it’s not an exhaustive list (there are many more great ones!) but these are some fantastic ones to start with.

Great All-Rounders

HR Magazine

HR Review

HR Zone

TheHRDirector

HRD Connect

To start, here are five publications that are great all-rounders. Each one provides regular insights on HR news, featuring a broad range of topics to ensure you’re getting a good view of what’s going on in the industry - HR Magazine, TheHRDirector and HRD Connect are all about a management view of the workplace.

Diversity and inclusion, employee engagement, leadership, tech, health and wellbeing, organisational design and so much more - these publications have got you covered, using a broad range of news stories, features and commentary from HR professionals and industry experts.

HR Daily Interest

HR Grapevine

For a snappy read, HR Grapevine is a great destination. Though it still provides commentary on a range of hard-hitting stories and important issues, this publication is also great for getting the scoop on more casual stories too. So for your daily interest reads, head over to the publication that’s been named as the ‘HR and Benefits publication of the year 2020’.

Employment Law and All-Encompassing

People Management

Personnel Today

If you’re looking for the latest news on employment law and employer regulations or for insights from employment law experts, you’re in safe hands with these two publications. Both cover in-depth stories on the latest employment legislation, government affairs, employment tribunals and legal commentary.

Tech Insights

UNLEASH

Unleash provides a great scope of information on all things workplace tech and better still, it does it through a good range of content formats - articles, videos, reports as well as partnership content. This publication is a hive of activity for HR tech news.

Workplace

Work.Life

Work.Life is a publication dedicated to the modern workplace and workforce under the parent company Digiday Media. It covers a number of different topics specific to the workplace, including spaces, culture, DE&I, talent and more in its easily digestible articles with fun illustrations.

Health and Wellbeing

Occupational Health and Wellbeing

Make a Difference

Occupational Health and Wellbeing is the sister publication to Personnel Today, and alongside Make a Difference, they provide the latest news on workplace health for mental, physical and financial wellness. For the latest guidance on how HR and health practitioners can support the wellness of workforces, these are excellent publications.

Recruitment and Talent

Recruiter

The Global Recruiter

For those seeking stories from the recruitment industry, these are two leading publications. While both provide insights on the recruitment market as a whole, Recruiter also categorises its recruitment stories by industry - so whether you’re in retail, the public sector, oil and gas or non-profit industries, you can find the most relevant stories.

Everything Benefits

Employee Benefits

REBA

Employee Benefits and REBA are publications that give the detail on rewards, benefits, pay and pensions that more generalist publications may not focus on. They’re a go-to for the latest information on company actions and guidance. Employee Benefits is now part of the Personnel Today family (see above). And although REBA is a rewards and benefits association and some of its content is only accessible to premium members, there is a wide variety of useful articles that can be accessed for free too.
